Frequency Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What Is Epack?

Epack is a long-term collective investment fund established by Databank in October 1996. Epack pools money in different amounts from different people for investing primarily in shares listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) and ten (10) other regulated Stock Exchanges in Africa. The name Epack was coined from the first names of the initial five investors in the Fund. Epack sets out to help individuals build capital over time.

2. For how long should I keep my funds invested in Epack?

When it comes to investing, there is no hard and fuss rule about how long to keep your funds invested. It all depends on you and your determination to let your money work for you. We recommend a minimum holding period of five years for Epack. However, you should bear in mind that the longer you keep your funds invested, the more significant your returns will be.

3. What benefits do I enjoy for investing in equities?

With equities, you get to enjoy significant returns that can help combat the effect of inflation. Historically, the stock market has yielded higher returns to investors especially over the long term. By investing in Epack, you are investing in equities that can help you preserve the value of your money while you grow it significantly for the future.

4. What returns do I make as an investor in Epack?

Returns in Epack are realized from changes in the Fund’s price (relative to the price at which you purchased it at). For example, if you bought a share at GHC 0.15 and the current price is GHC 0.25, then the return on that share is GHC 0.25 – GHC 0.15 = GHC 0.10 (which translates to a return of 66.7%). Dividends and Coupon payments earned by the Fund’s investments are reinvested in the Fund.

5. What are my possible investment objectives as an Epack investor?

Epack is a great investment if you’re planning toward buying a house, a car, starting a business or any other financial goals you are looking to attain in the long term.

6. How much do I need to be able to invest in Epack?

The minimum (lump sum) investment that an individual can make into Epack is GHC50. If you opt to do a regular investment plan, the minimum monthly contribution is GHC 10. You can top up your investment at any point in time. You can purchase Epack shares by cash, cheque or bank transfer.

7. Can I invest in Epack using an existing account?

Yes. You can maintain all your Databank mutual fund investments in one account. Simply provide the Databank Relationship Manager with your account number when you come in to invest in Epack.

8. How old do I need to be to invest in Epack?

Investors must be 18 years or older. Anyone below that age will require a parent or guardian to open the account in trust for him or her.

9. Can I access the funds in my investment anytime I need money?

Yes. While you can access your funds anytime, it is recommended that you allow your contributions to remain in the Fund for at least 5 years. This is to ensure that you realize maximum potential gains from your investment.
